Shopping Smart

I am a firm believer in buying high end accessories and wearing them to ad nauseam.  I felt vindicated recently in LA while waking around in Neiman Marcus in this outfit when 5 people commented on my outfit - in particular my top and blouse.

I was wearing my Roger Vivier flats, Chloe Nile bag, a very old pair of Piazza Sempione black pants (a necessary wardrobe staple) - all what I consider high end brands. However, my star top and blue blouse are from H&M.  And, they were on SALE for a combined total of $34!

Of course everyone who commented knew the name brands.

One of the sales ladies was shocked I even admitted I bought the top and blouse at H&M.  And then she uttered my credo "I guess it's true that it's really all about the accessories in high/low dressing"   YAAS!  Having a few high end pieces you wear over and over again can make any outfit look like it cost a million bucks.  I just can't say it enough.

So how do you pull off high end accessories on a low end budget?  With a little perseverance you can do it.  First, identify a few items you want.  Unfortunately, impulse buying of high end items is a no-no.  It's should be slow going on high end purchases because your going to have to live with them for years!

For instance below, I had seen my Prada Banana Heel boot that I wanted but not at full price!  I scoured a few sites like TheRealReal.com, LastCall.com and SaksOffFifth.com and BlueFly.com.  Low and behold they showed up on sale eventually and I snapped them right up from Saks Off Fifth!

Next, I knew I needed a cropped flare jean or pants to highlight the boot's fabulous heel. While shopping at Marshall's I found the cropped denim Joe's Jeans.  Star sweater was a bonus on sale for $16 during the same shopping trip.

Stylingwise tip:  Identify an item or whole look you want and check out discount sites for exact items or similar looks.

My favorite sites:

 TheRealReal.comLastCall.com and SaksOffFifth.com and BlueFly.com.
